My Students

Childhood obesity is a hot-button issue these days - fueling conversations everywhere from Baltimore City bus stops to our teachers' lounge to the White House. But what are any of us actually doing about the issue?

As a Physical Education teacher, I am on a mission to get kids moving.

I teach students in grades PreK - 8. It's not unusual for them to eat Hot Cheetos and Dr Pepper for breakfast, or spend entire afternoons parked in front of the television. My work is cut out for me! But I may have actually found the silver bullet to get kids moving... music! Whether we're playing a sport, doing aerobics, or going for a run, boys and girls of all ages are much more willing to get in motion if their favorite music is playing in the background!

My Project

Last year we tried three different stereo systems, none of which could carry sound all the way across the gym. These high-quality speakers are exactly what we need to get all of our students on the move in PE! In addition, we will be able to use these wi-fi speakers to listen to podcasts, sporting events, and speeches from coaches around the country. There is no doubt in my mind that these speakers will motivate my PE students.

We won't see an end to childhood obesity unless the next generation of students gets hooked on exercise.

Whether it's team sports, dance, aerobics, or running, my students are bound to get into exercise if they hear the right theme music in the background. Please help us!
