Battling Climate Change with Plants!

Help me give my students the supplies they need to grow their own food and experiment with plants to see which are best for sequestering carbon from the atmosphere.

My Project

Students this year are taking climate change to the next level. In the spring my students grow plants that they can usually take home. They often consist of some kind of food that they enjoy eating and sharing with their families. This year we have had deep conversations about climate change and how growing your own food can reduce your carbon footprint. Some students have taken this even further wondering how much carbon can individual plants sequester.

This project is going to give them the tools to test out their theory.

Which garden plant can sequester the most carbon from the atmosphere? Clever students.

This project will give my students the ability to attempt to find out how they can reduce their carbon footprint further by planting specific types of plants. Not only will it help my current 8th and 10th grade classes to experimentally determine this, but also future science students as the equipment can be used from year to year.
