I am the teacher of very energetic and remarkable 4th grade students in a city with the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in our country! Our district has over 48,000 students, encompasses almost 2,000 square miles, and has more than 130 schools and programs. There are over 100 languages spoken by families in our school district.
Each morning, my students walk through the door and are greeted with new opportunities to learn and to be successful.
My students are very creative and, as their teacher, I do my best to foster their learning and provide opportunities to grow as individuals. Our classroom is full of eager learners and very hard workers with ethnically and economically diverse backgrounds.
Each of my students comes from his or her own unique situation and home life. Every single one of my students has strengths to share, as well as room to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. We are a strong and loving classroom community that works together to ensure learning, growth, opportunities, and successes for each other.
The Battleship games I am requesting are a supplement to the fourth grade curriculum we are using in our classroom. These games will give my students opportunities to work with partners to engage in fun and enriching math activities.
Students will be able to practice and fine-tune skills, learn new concepts, and come to a greater understanding of the math we study while having fun and working with others.
Playing Battleship can be especially helpful for kinesthetic and visual learners. The game of Battleship requires students to practice thinking and problem solving skills that are critical to understanding mathematics. Battleship is a game of memory, logic and strategy, and probability skills. The game also helps students become more familiar with the X-axis, the Y-axis, points that contain an x- and y- coordinate, origin, quadrants, columns and rows, locating points, and naming points.
Utilizing supplemental materials is important for students. It is a time to enjoy each other's company, have fun while learning and reinforcing concepts, and explore math from a different perspective. Thank you for considering our project. With your help and the help of DonorsChoose, I will be able to provide my students with engaging and fun learning opportunities.
