Help me give my students engaging books that will change and challenge the way they think about the world.

My Project
Each year, our school proudly participates in the Chicago Public Schools’ Battle of the Books competition, a program that inspires young readers to explore novels written by diverse authors with rich storylines. From September to May, our 5th and 6th grade team reads 20 preselected novels. During meetings, we engage in discussions, evaluations, and debates about the themes, characters, and messages in these stories, fostering critical thinking and a shared love of reading.
With your help, we can provide each student with their own copy of the novels, allowing them to fully engage with the material.
Currently, we rely on shared library copies, which limits our students' access to these stories. This will enable them to annotate, take their time with the books, and better prepare for group discussions and debates.
Our students compete in a spring qualifying battle, with the goal of advancing to the city competition. Having placed 3rd in the city the past two years, our team is eager to succeed again. By donating, you'll give our students the tools they need to thrive, fostering a passion for reading and creating an environment where they feel valued and empowered to share their voices.
