This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are avid readers who enjoy visiting our elementary school library space. They are inquisitive, creative bucket fillers. Despite the budget cuts that our schools experience in the inner city of Chicago, our elementary school continues to support our library program.
As a teacher-librarian, I encourage reading and information exploration.
Our library program is an essential part of our school. We value the power of information that comes from reading. Our students have the ability to check-out books of their interest to read, wonder, discover, explore, create, and question the world around them.
My Project
Excitement is in the air, as a group of Library students engage in an epic battle. The long awaited Battle of the Books is finally here. A City-wide reading competition, where our 4th-6th Grade brave scholars are meeting at the round table once a week. Our kiddos leave no page unturned when faced with amazing story adventures in our wonderful Library space.
The challenge the enthusiastic readers are currently facing is that they don't have the books they need to prepare for the ultimate reading battle in March.
Non Fiction Books such as; What Kids Did: Stories of Kindness and Invention in the Time of Covid-19 by Erin Silver and The Floating Field: How a Group of Thai Boys Built Their Own Soccer Field by Scott Riley; are some of the excellent titles listed in this year's 2022 Battle of the Books reading list.
With these new books listed in the project, my students will be able to choose what they want to read independently, while also allowing them to participate in wonderful book discussions around what they have read. They are excited and eager to engage in the 2022 Battle of the Books.
