Battle of the Books was canceled at the district level due to budget cuts. My students wanted to continue the program and started a grass roots effort in our school to continue the battles. If we can get these books, we will be able to continue this program on a limited basis in our school.
We are a magnet school that focuses efforts on acceleration and gifted and talented students.
This population is often neglected in school because of their abilities. Our school offers a unique place where these students can come together and thrive in a higher level environment.
Middle school students came together during their lunch and have come up with this engaging list of different genres to read, study and prepare to do battle. They wanted this so much that they started the club themselves. Seeing their enthusiasm, several teachers decided to give up their lunch time to meet with the students. With this list of books, we will be able to continue this enrichment. Let the Battles Begin!!!
Students are able to compare and contrast these titles in a rich discussion as they prepare to battle and show their ability to draw conclusions and engage in higher order thinking as they work together in teams.
