The Battle Is On!
Help foster the love of reading classic children's literature.

H.M.S.
provides its students with a learning environment, that ensures a firm foundation in the basics, and fosters respect for our diverse population. Hart focuses on technology and an inquiry-based approach to science. The theme of environmental studies, allows our students to find a connection between their own community and the world in which they live, creating productive citizens and resourceful, life-long learners. The H.M. community consists of students and families, from throughout the city of Stamford. The majority of families come from the H.M. neighborhood. Our school is located in the downtown area, of the city of Stamford. We provide a safe haven for our students, where their sense of school and community can flourish.
My Project
Our book request will be used to replenish 5th-grade classroom libraries, and students will use these books for our annual H.M.S. Battle of the Books. The Battle of the Books is an annual event, where our 5th-grade students are introduced to a variety of classic young reader novels. The children will participate, by having an opportunity to read up to 60 various titles, and they will respond to the literature through writing. This will lead to a culminating event, where each 5th grade classroom will go to "battle," on how much they remember, from each book they have read.
This project can improve our students' lives in so many ways.
Our students are introduced to some of the most revered children's literature novels. Some of our students would never have read, or come across these classics on their own. This event not only supports our 5th-grade students' reading comprehension and writing, but it can help to inspire students, to understand and enjoy the most challenging literature, as they further their education.
