This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Battle of the Books competition is a day in which our students have the opportunity to collaborate with kids from a variety of schools from all over the county as they answer questions about 28 different books. We had two students representing our school at the event yesterday, and we are looking forward to building a larger team next year. We had the opportunity to talk with staff from other schools, and we learned about the buttons that a local middle school uses to reward students for each book they have read. This incentivizes the students to read and also allows students to show everyone how many books they have read.

We are requesting an awesome button maker so we can create buttons to represent each of the 28 books on the Battle of the Books list.

Students will earn buttons for reading books, and will also earn a lanyard after earning their first 8 buttons. Our hope is that this will build excitement for the Battle of the Books program schoolwide, resulting in more students on our team each year.
