Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

We are trying to build a culture of reading in our urban Title 1 school. Starting a book club has been difficult in the past due to funding and finding time to get it completed in a timely manner during the school day.

Participating in a state sponsored Elementary Battle of the Books competition will give my students motivation to grow as readers, a goal to achieve, and a sense of belonging that wasn't present in past book club settings.

My goal with this project is to equip 12 students with half of the Battle of the Books titles so they can start reading them over the summer break.
