Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fourth grade class is full of amazing, compassionate students!! They were in second grade when their lives were tipped on end by the school closures due to Covid. Despite their challenges, they are a resilient bunch who show a lot of of grit and tenacity. They work hard to support each other and I am proud of their hard work!!

Attentiveness and emotional regulation are two areas these fabulous kids struggle to master.

Their emotional maturity is, as a whole, a bit lacking. Because of this they have difficulty concentrating. We are in the flight path of the Air Force base, and often the "sound of freedom" disturbs their learning time and independent practice.

My Project

My Students have battled their way through more than a quarter of the year with no schooling in second grade; a year of hybrid schooling and in person mandated masking in third grade; and half a year of uncertainty of fourth grade. They have fought this war with smiles on their faces, but their emotional well-being and attentiveness could use some reinforcements!

Because the harsh florescent lighting of our classroom and the noise from the wonderful f-35 aircrafts from the nearby Air Force base negatively affect their abilities to focus during independent practice and computer assisted learning maneuvers, we need headphones and light filters.

Many of my students are the children or siblings of military personnel and are troopers when it comes to giving it their best shot. It's time to call in the cavalry!
