This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work in a specialized prekindergarten classroom with students of various ages and disabilities. Each of them come from very low income households and have diverse backgrounds including family structure and languages spoken. What they do have in common is that when they enter my classroom, I am their very first teacher and this school year will be there first ever school experience.
What is important to understand is that students with special needs do not always respond to conventional teaching styles and aids, thus educators need to harness methods and resources which cater to their individual manner of understanding and learning.
I have filled my classroom with sensory based toys, interactive toys, and cause and effect toys to stimulate their brains and keep their attention through the day. What they need now is power to keep these items running. I have added to my cart rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. This will allow me to charge the batteries and use them over and over instead of purchasing the batteries every month.
