My Project
My students are a dynamic and resilient group, many of whom are immigrants, refugees, or English language learners. They bring a wealth of cultural diversity, unique perspectives, and a deep determination to succeed despite the challenges they face. What makes them truly special is their ability to navigate new environments, learn new languages, and build connections with one another, creating a classroom that is both inclusive and vibrant.
The requested cricket sets will have a profound impact on their learning by providing a familiar and enjoyable activity that resonates with many of their cultural backgrounds.
Cricket is a sport that some of my students grew up playing or watching in their home countries, and introducing it into our PE curriculum offers them a sense of comfort and belonging. For those who are new to the sport, it presents an exciting opportunity to learn something new while building teamwork, communication skills, and confidence in a non-academic setting.
The goals of this project are to foster inclusivity, build community, and support the physical and emotional well-being of my students. By incorporating cricket into our PE program, we aim to create a space where students can connect with their cultural heritage, share their knowledge with peers, and feel valued and understood. This project supports immigrants, refugees, and English language learners by recognizing and honoring their backgrounds, providing a familiar activity that bridges the gap between their past experiences and their new life here.
Through this project, students will not only develop physical skills but also build friendships, practice language skills in a relaxed environment, and gain confidence that extends beyond the classroom.
