Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am extremely blessed to be able to have a relationship with every student. As the music teacher, each student attends my class once a week where we get to be refreshed by the joy of music together.
Just today, a student said, "I wish this was like college because I heard you get music every single day." This represents the passion that my students have, and the joy they have in expressing it.
It is so immensely important to identify these passions within our children and provide them with opportunities to express them. Despite the hardship they've had to endure in the past year and a half, my students have shown extraordinary growth in their musical skill and knowledge. This is a huge win!
My Project
The addition of this requested bass xylophone to our classroom will support increased student performance opportunities. Providing students with rich, hands-on, musical experiences fosters a love for music, enhances music literacy development, encourages cooperation and leadership, and increases family and community involvement.
All students at our school will use the new instrument in music class to support learning.
While students currently have the opportunity to participate in learning using barred instruments, our sound and experiences are limited to the classroom instruments obtained. Having a bass xylophone would provide the ensemble with a richer sound as we prepare work for performance, and get us closer to our goal of having a 1:1 instrument to student ratio within each class.
