Of all the instruments to have in a music room, a contrabass bar can be the most enticing and exciting. The low, rich sound of a contrabass bar rounds out any Orff ensemble sound, and students can't get enough of its deep tone! My students love the pleasant sounds of our Orff instrumentation, but adding the lower octave using a bass bar takes us to the next level.
Contrabass bars are dream instruments for my students.
Not only would an F bass bar be a fun addition to our growing ensemble, but it also is a great teaching tool! The bass bar's deep timbre cuts through an ensemble sound easily and allows me to help students maintain a beat and stay together. For older students, it allows for differentiation and an extra level of responsibility when a student becomes in charge of maintaining that ensemble pulse!
Our first bass bar was a C, and then we recently added a G. This F bass bar would fill out the sound and pair with the other bass bars to solidify different tonalities. The F is also versatile because it can easily be its own tonic when playing in the key of F! Please consider helping us get an F bass bar. Thank you!
