I am a first year teacher looking to provide a world music experience to my students in a socially distant classroom! We are working together to build our collection of instruments so my students can have a diverse array of experiences when making music. We need more xylophones in order to have this experience in a safe, socially distant way!
Using Orff instruments in music class, including xylophones, can increase self-expression, self-confidence and social skills. Playing instruments helps build fine and gross motor skills, while also helping students learn to play, read, and experience music.
With a wider variety of instruments, students will be able to find musical opportunities that resonate with them. Another xylophone will not only allow me to give students a different way to experience music-making, but also will better allow me to teach music efficiently and effectively while being required to clean materials between student use. Another xylophone would help us be safer!
