My students need new basketballs to use as game balls. Whenever we are the home team, the away team generally will not use our basketballs because they are too old and worn.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our student-athletes strive to meet the school's mantra of scholarship, discipline, and honor as they work toward success in high school but ultimately reaching their goal of college graduation. Our athletics programs seek to serve them on their journey by providing high-quality experiences that push them to be their best.
Our school serves mostly Hispanic and African-American students in the city of Chicago, with over 90% receiving free breakfast and lunch.
Despite these circumstances, our students show curiosity, optimism, grit, and joy in overcoming the difficulties they face in their neighborhoods and lives. Our school graduates 100% of our scholars and also sends 100% of our scholars to college. Our goal is college graduation and each of our programs is designed to help our students achieve that goal, even though many of them would be first-generation college students.
My Project
Our basketball team is in need of new basketballs, specifically game balls. As the home team in half of our contests, we are required to provide game balls for the game.
Currently, our basketballs are old and worn down with poor grip.
New basketballs would allow us to provide quality game balls for our contests. Additionally, we could add more basketballs for our players to practice and play with.
In addition to the game balls, grip sheets would allow our players better footing and help prevent injury. Our practice gym is also used by the entire student body for P.E. As such, the floor can be very slippery and makes it difficult to practice at a high level without the possibility of injury.
