This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love that my students show up ready to work, even in the offseason. The student athletes on our basketball team are motivated, coachable, and eager to improve, not just as players but as teammates and leaders. Many of them rely on school sports as a place where they feel connected, supported, and challenged in positive ways.

The equipment in this project will allow our coach to run structured, stations-based practices that focus on skill development, conditioning, and teamwork for approximately 30 athletes each season.

Agility ladders, cones, and stopwatches will be used for footwork, speed, and conditioning drills. Basketballs, a weighted training ball, dribble cap, and shooting aids will help athletes improve ball handling, shooting form, and overall control. Pinnies and a training mannequin will support scrimmages and situational drills that reinforce communication and decision-making on the court.

Together, these resources will strengthen our ability to coach intentionally and consistently. Practices will be more organized, efficient, and skill-focused, giving students meaningful opportunities to build discipline, confidence, and leadership through team sports. This project supports coaching that goes beyond the game, helping students develop habits and skills they will carry with them long after the season ends.
