This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The winter months are approaching and it's that time of season for some basketball or "hoop time" as our students call it. They love to play basketball as a warm-up activity or as a competitive game. Both the girls and the boys really enjoy this sport. The game is played around the world!

We have students from around the world.

We are a school like no other in our state and every student brings a different perspective because they were not born in America. They want to become citizens eventually. So, they have a desire to learn and a will to succeed. Our school is located in the heart of a large metropolitan city. The setting is a culturally diverse school with students from over 20 countries. They speak over 15 different languages. We serve over 250 kids. The majority of our population has lived in the US less than two years. Many of them have been here for only a few months and some of our kids have not been in a formal educational setting before, let alone a physical education class. Thus, they are fortunate, and will get to experience a quality physical education program at our school.

My Project

I know you remember the fun times you had gathering around the gymnasium during physical education class or at the local park during warm weather and enjoying your friends and family while playing horse or around the world or playing 3 vs 3 games. Many of you even played the game competing against other teams at the varsity level for your school. Most of us have had an experience with the game of basketball. It is fun, easy to play, and builds friendships. It is an easy activity to play anywhere. The ball fits in your car and can be taken anywhere. Now all we need is a basketball so we can play games in our axillary gymnasium. And a device called Slipp-Not that helps remove dust and dirt off the bottom of our gym shoes to help our shoes get a better grip on the gym floor.
