Basketball Team Has No Supplies!

My students need practice gear, drill cards, new nets, wipe off boards and new basketballs for practice and games.

My Students

My school has recently started a new basketball program in hopes of reaching some of our at risk students. These students are required to keep a certain grade in their academic classes in order to continue participation on the team. It has shown great reward so far!

The boys and girls involved in the basketball team are 11-15 years old and commit time after school every day for practice and drills.

This is where I witnessed their need. I was holding music rehearsal after school one day and as I dismissed my students I noticed the teams were using minimally inflated basketballs which are extremely worn and weren't wearing any practice jerseys. I immediately knew I had to do what I could to help! I kept thinking about how successful they were in their inaugural season and if they had the right materials, they could go all the way this year!

My Project

These young boys and girls will use the basketball bags to organize their basketballs in the empty supply closet, and new basketballs will help them run drills and practice activities before the games. The wipe off boards will allow the teacher and student coaches to design plays for success on the court and the pinnies will allow students to properly prepare new plays in practice games the week before an official game. It has been proven that sports activities lead to learning sportsmanship, teamwork, and commitment. These teams have brought together a diverse group of students to accomplish the same task, success on the court!

These donations will help build a spirit filled team community among the boys and girls of the basketball teams and the school.

The requirement of students to earn a certain grade on their academic report card has shown students that academic success and team success go hand in hand. Your donations will continue to make this success possible!
