This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our 4rd to 5th graders started playing basketball after school this Winter for 5 weeks season. They had the opportunity to play against 3 other elementary schools from our district and at the end, they had a tournament. Students and families enjoyed it so much that they did not want to stop when it was over. Two of our school teachers stepped up to be the coaches and several other staff members helped out through out the session and during the basketball games. We want do this next year, but extending the basketball season by starting practices sooner. One of the challenges this year was not having the adequate and sufficient equipment available for practice and games. This project will support our basketball team with basketballs.

Team sports has been proven to provides physical, emotional and social benefits for students of all ages.

These basketballs will be for practice and tournaments.

The goal is for students to learn how to play the game, know what is to be part of a team, and promote healthy life style by staying active. Our fourth and fifth graders participating will enjoy being part of a team and having a longer basketball season next school year.
