Basketball Blues

My students need 22 fiction and non-fiction books on the subject of basketball.

This project is fully funded

I am the librarian at an inner city, K-6 high needs school. Our school is an "Expeditionary Learning" (EL) school dedicated to inquiry-based learning which emphasizes learning by doing.

My library budget is $1,000 a year. This means that each year, I can buy approximately 55 new books for the 300 students in the school. My students love to read and if a book interests them, they grab it off the shelf. The boys in particular love sports books, especially basketball. Unfortunately, I have very few basketball books, and hardly any that are up-to-date.

I am requesting both fiction and non-fiction basketball books. The children here love to read about their favorite players and teams. If a fiction book has a child playing basketball on the cover, it will be read from cover to cover. Some of these children live for basketball, and if I can get them interested in reading by using basketball, you know I will.

I am asking for your help to support our library. If I receive books, I can put them on the shelves and they will be read over and over again by the children. Basketball books are so easy to "sell" to the children. All I have to do is show the cover, and the book will sell itself. These children love to read if the book interests them. Your gift will make it possible to get the type of books that my students will devour. Thank you for your consideration.
