My Project

Help me support the basic needs of my pregnant and parenting students. Often times, we focus on the immediate academic needs of our students such as pens and paper. We seldom consider other areas that need attention. We have 9th-12th graders at our school who are expecting and/or parenting and would greatly benefit from resources that support their parenting needs.

Our students range in age from 16-24 years old.

As a School Social Worker, my job involves assisting students with their social, emotional and academic development. I achieve this by providing counseling in an inviting and safe space. I also offer tangible resources to help students manage their daily living needs. My hope is that this project will reach at least 20 students at my school. I want to relieve them of stress by giving them a break and offering the basics that their children need.

This project will help offset costs students incur with parenting. As young parents, they are faced with many obstacles that impact their learning and can make life stressful. Eliminating one challenge can redirect their focus and energy on their academic progress and success. This project will support expecting and parenting moms and dads at my school who need pampers and wipes for their newborns and toddlers. This material assistance will also promote learning by providing the children with books to complement their social and emotional development.
