Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing! Despite their disabilities, often unstable home environments, and countless negative attempts at success, they arrive daily knowing their educational team is happy to see them and ready to support them in meeting their educational, behavioral, and emotional goals. My 7-12th grade county SDC class serves students with varying disabilities: Emotional Disturbsnce, Specific Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability, Autism, and Other Health Impairment. However, they know they aren’t these labels and want to excel in school so they can access the same opportunities as their general education peers. My students are in a small program with intensive services (mental health, behavioral, etc.) with the goal to make necessary improvements in order to transition back to their district schools.
My Project
My students love expressing themselves through art. Whether it's writing, doodling or creating their own masterpieces, they need basic tools to make this happen. These pens, pencils, heavy paper, paints, and erasers, will provide them with quality supplies. My students have often commented on the very old brushes and watercolor kits we use. They'd love to have higher quality materials that don't leave brush hairs behind on their art. I know they'd appreciate having a higher quality set of pens and pencils to create their art pieces. I buy inexpensive small packs of coloring pencils and pens that bleed. They do their best, but art quality supplies would better support as we learn about the elements of art, create original drawing/paintings, and express themselves. Basic pens and pencils are needed for all assignments. All of these are supplies they need and will use regularly if not daily.
