My school is a true melting pot of cultures, economic statuses, homes, and families. This school is considered high poverty; over 60% of our students are economically disadvantaged, and our school has now qualified for free lunch and breakfast for our students. We have over 10 different cultural backgrounds in our classroom with such diversity as Alaska Native, Samoan, Russian, and American Indian. Recently while studying Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., my students answered the question "What do you think Dr. King would say about our classroom?"
One answered, "He would say that our class is his dream come true." Which is exactly right.
We are such a wonderful mix of persons.
My Project
My students will be starting the year with virtual learning. They are going to need some supplies to help them accomplish this. In the classroom, we use whiteboards for learning writing, math and different reading assignments.
White boards allow my students to write their answers and not use up all the paper in their house.
White boards are an amazing tool for math and language arts. I am also requesting pencils and notebooks for students to use while at home. Pencils are always a good resource until you can't find a pencil sharpener, so that has been included in the wish list as well.
The last item is the deck of cards. Cards are a great resource for math, There are so many different activities that a student can do on their own or with siblings or parents.
