Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title 1 school which means that my wonderful students come from a low socioeconomic environment with 67% of the students at risk of dropping out. I teach reading recovery and my students are at least 2 grade levels behind in reading skills. They struggle to have a positive attitude towards their educational future but with a lot of love a care within my instruction last year I was able to show growth with my students.
In my classroom we build a community of “I can” attitude and celebrate the smallest of success to create a successful environment.
For some of my students it is the first time they have ever felt successful in their education. I believe and have the privilege of seeing this success change my student’s attitude towards their educational future.
My Project
Student in a low-income area need to have access to the basic supplies without the stress of asking their parents/guardians. With all the students in the school qualifying for free lunches, this is a real stressful time for my students and their families.
The donation of the supplies I am requesting will assist my students in beginning the year with an “I CAN” attitude by helping to take the beginning of the year financial stress from their families and provide them with the supplies they need to begin a successful year.
The pencils, glue and scissors will be used daily and kept in the caddies. The composition notebooks will also be used daily to take noes and keep track of their reading notes as they read novel and assist them in successfully comprehending the book. I know these supplies will be the beginning of the “I CAN” attitude in my classroom because they will have the needed supplies to become successful.
