Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from southeast Houston and we are a Title I school. All of my students are on free breakfast and lunch. The school is surrounded by apartments where the majority of my students live.
My students want to learn and they try very hard even though some of my students have experienced losing their homes and cars due to the recent flood that saturated the Houston area.
We still have several families living with extended families and friends. There has been a lot of mobility of our children moving between family members and trying to get back to what life was like before this major flooding event that hit our area, but our children still maintain a very positive attitude.
My students still need more resources because of all the changes they still are going through.
My Project
My students didn't come with many school supplies needed for this school year. It is usually up to the teachers to fill in the gaps to purchase the supplies that are needed for the classroom. The colored pencils can be used for both the science and the math journals. The pencils I am in desperate need of because the students go through them quickly. I need the file folders to make new centers and to file their work. The clipboards are for when we are on the floor reading a book and doing activities. All of these things will greatly help our classroom.
