Basic Supplies Needed for Special Needs Music Class

My students need basic school supplies including notebooks, pens, pencils, folders, copy paper, and a stapler, for music class.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Pohl's classroom raised $347

My Students

Have you ever tried to be successful at something with all the wrong tools? I am writing this proposal for basic school supplies so my special needs students can begin their musical journey with all materials they need to be a success.

My students are middle school students grade 6 through 8 and are diagnosed with a variety of special needs.

Some students are on the autism spectrum and others are emotionally disturbed. My school believes that music has healing powers and although it won't cure these special needs, it may have the power to calm some students and even help them focus; and of course I couldn't agree more!

My Project

The students in my class struggle to bring in basic school supplies so I am requesting all the supplies they will need throughout the year. These kids love learning about music, especially different genres. We create a Facebook profile for their favorite musician from each genre we study; Blues, Country, Rock N Roll, and Hip Hop. These profiles are then printed and displayed beautifully in our music hallway and they are proud to show them off to their classmates during passing. Students will also create their own new musical instrument. They will take two current instruments and combine them, on paper, to create a new instrument. They must come up with a name for it and also describe its sound production, tone, and role in an orchestra.

This music class will help change my students' lives for the better by giving them an enjoyable subject to participate in and a release for high stakes testing classes.

Many students with special needs develop anxiety over the need to be perfect and perform perfectly during state exams. These supplies will be used to create Facebook profiles for musicians, Twitter pages for Composers, and new student created instruments.
