This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
"Miss, do you have a pen I can use?" "Do you have any tape?" Without fail, these are some of the most frequently asked questions in my classroom.
Most students qualify for the free lunch program at my high-needs school, meaning they cannot obtain the most basic school supplies, such as pens and pencils.
My students are a bright, enthusiastic group of individuals who genuinely enjoy learning. It saddens me that they often go without their much-needed school supplies.
For this project, I am requesting classroom basics such as colored paper, pens, scissors, and folders. The highlighters will help students annotate their reading assignments to help show their understanding, while the folders will help students keep organized. Having these supplies in my classroom allows me to focus on instruction and planned activities instead of scrounging up supplies for the students. Students can participate in the day's lesson and complete projects without worrying about having the resources needed.
Without the basic tools used for studying, students cannot grow as readers, writers, and thinkers. My students see themselves as scholars, and there is no reason why they should be without the most basic school supplies.
