My second graders mostly come from low-income homes and more than half of them are learning English for the first time. They aren't able to bring the types of items that might be found on a back-to-school supply list that many teachers might send home. It's up to me to supply paper, crayons, pencils, printer ink, tissues, and bandaids--the types of things that make learning possible. Paper and ink to print assignments with, handwriting paper for spelling and creative writing, and pencils and crayons to write and draw with are the tools that children use to build their futures. The luxury of a bandaid on a papercut or scraped knee is something that makes being hurt and away from your mom survivable when you're seven years old, and a tissue when your nose is running and you'd rather be home in bed is an absolute necessity. Please help me make learning possible with the basic tools and supplies my learners need to be successful.
