Basic Supplies for Successful Learning!

My Students

I am a second grade teacher at a Title I elementary school located in Brooklyn's East New York. All my students qualify for free lunch and dinner and many come to class hungry and wanting for the basics all children need. With so many different cultures, backgrounds and learning styles represented in my classroom I am in constant need of resources to engage, challenge, and elevate my wonderful and deserving 2nd graders.

Many of my children come to school inadequately nurtured - both in food and love.

I want to give them the knowledge and life skills needed for them to grow up happy and healthy.

My Project

It's hard to believe but we're halfway through this school year and I'm already running out of basic classroom supplies. Most of my students do not come to class prepared even with a pencil and I want to make sure that anything they need to succeed, even a pencil, will be available for them.

I'm requesting a variety of basic classroom supplies including pencils, erasers, Elmer's glue sticks, construction paper, Expo dry erase markers, kid scissors, Post-it chart pads, and an electric pencil sharpener.

These supplies will be used by me and the students as we push forward in our learning.

Having something so basic as a sharpened pencil is critical for any student to achieve and succeed. The pencils, erasers, dry erase markers, construction paper, and scissors will be housed in the classroom supply area. The Post-it chart paper is for lesson anchor charts which are posted around the classroom for all to see. Students also use the chart paper when working on team projects.

These supplies will not only help my students this year but will be ready for those new students next September.
