Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of diverse Kindergarten through Second-grade boys and girls from Central Florida who present wonderful project ideas that I must reject because we simply cannot provide the resources. All of my students are on the Autism Spectrum and display a great need for sensory resources to learn with that we also cannot provide. My students are kind, sweet, eager to engage, and accepting of each other and those around them. Most of my students and their families could not afford to bring in all of the basic supplies on the class list this year. Our high poverty county has suffered through extreme budget cuts. All of the students at this Title 1 school are on the government free/reduced price lunch program. In my classroom, our goal is to enrich all of my students and to close the achievement gap for these students, especially being as they all are on the Autism Spectrum. We also aim to provide them with all of the equipment necessary so that they may achieve the skills needed to succeed in life. I want to strengthen their academic progress bringing them up to their highest potential.
My Project
This project is all about the basic supplies my students need to succeed. I have requested ultra fine dry erase markers for my students to use with their differentiated curriculum. My students need daily review for old and new academic concepts and they will use the Ultra Fine Dry Erase Markers to complete differentiated laminated worksheets. It's the middle of the school year and we are on a very low supply of pencils. My students work best with the Ticonderoga pencils; they need erasers as well. We will use the highlighters for any tracing tasks or extra writing support my students will need. The dividers will be used to help organize my students work and curriculum in our classroom binders. The Sharpie and BIC permanent markers will be used to label the binder dividers and other curriculum for efficiency.
We need these basic school supplies to keep my students academic success momentum going for the last half of the school year.
