My Students

Many of my students face challenges in life due to poverty, unstable housing, and language barriers. Although life is not easy, my students are extremely positive, grateful, and happy children. Our school faces the same issues many other schools face in low socioeconomic areas. We strive to meet the basic needs of our students so they are successful in school. My students are amazing people. They are extremely motivated, positive, and honest.

My Project

I teach my general class for the majority of the day, and do science rotations with all third graders. The students are scrambling to find adequate supplies to create posters, design projects, analyze data in graphs, and label diagrams. Having colored pencils, markers, and crayons will allow them to color code, create, and enhance their learning experience. Students also need to be able to create visual art.

We are out of the basic supplies of pencils and erasers.

The classroom also needs to be able to sharpen the pencils. Many of my students do not come with school supplies and the storage room at school ran out of pencils. My amazing students have become problem solvers by borrowing from friends, searching the lost and found, and using a crayon or colored pencil to complete assignments. While I am proud of their efforts and skills, I feel that a regular number two pencil of their own is a much better solution.
