My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I work with students who are faced with several challenges both in the classroom and home. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed?

My students walk into my classroom every day full of life and ready to learn! They want to be in school because they know that education is what it takes to be successful.

My Project

The students in my class need basic supplies to keep us going for the remainder of the year. Our current pencil sharpener is well used and is on it's last legs. It takes forever to sharpen a pencil and this takes away from valuable instructional time.

Project based learning is an important part of our classroom.

Our class uses glue and construction paper to create projects based on concepts learned in class. For example, we are making "I Have a Dream..." clouds with rainbows strips of paper that have my students' hopes and dreams written on them. This is the culminating project for our study of Martin Luther King Jr. Without the needed construction paper and glue, we would not be able to complete projects like these.
