This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are so brilliant! I want our supplies to reflect this. As a first year teacher, I am still building up my stockpile of basic supplies. While I am happy to spend money on my classroom and for my students, sometimes my "work stuff" monthly budget gets tight. My classroom is still lacking some supplies that would enhance our daily routines, our projects and our learning.
I try to be environmentally friendly, recycling, reducing copies, etc., but often the start up of these efforts is costly.
By having dry erase markers and dry erase pockets for every student, we will be able to reuse handouts and practice sheets. Easel paper will allow us to create our own anchor charts, custom to what the students need most as we build on our learning. These anchor charts will live in our classroom for weeks, and sometimes even months.
And then there are some supplies that are unavoidable and consumables like pencils and erasers are always a need in an elementary classroom. When I fund these basics, I lose the chance to buy more "exciting things" like crafts or books.
I am also asking for colored printer paper and colored pencils. These, along with the aluminum foil and paper plates, will come in endlessly handy for the many STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) projects, as well as art projects and gifts to take home to our families.
