Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a first year teacher at a priority school in SW DC. Our school has been labeled as a "40-40" school meaning that we are among the lowest performing schools in DCPS. One hundred percent of our kiddos receive free and reduced lunch. Our school population also has a high number of special education students. In my room, I have a variety of learners, including students with ADHD, speech impediments, learning disorders and emotional disturbance.

We don't receive supplies from parents or the school, so we are trying to fill the gap with help from donors!

With your help, we can create a loving, warm learning environment for my first graders where they have access to all the materials they need to learn!

My Project

Next year, I'll be moving down to kindergartner! My group of students are inquisitive and extremely eager to start "school!"

We need basic supplies to start off the year (big beginner pencils and markers!) We also need take-home folders.

Currently (in my first year of teaching), I used basic 5 cent folders as take home folders. It made it extremely difficult for kids to organize their papers and I barely ever got any papers returned! These folders will help us to stay organized and will lead to better communication with parents. Please help me get my classroom ready for our rising kindergartners!
