This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 27 eager first-grade students who enjoy learning how to read, write, and do the math. Our awesome school is located in Southern California. My first graders come to school ready to learn each day. We need basic supplies that we use daily in our classroom.

My students range from gifted and talented to below grade level.

We are proud to be a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence and have won many prestigious awards. Since we are not a Title I school, funding extra projects are very difficult!

My Project

Every year I get a new group of students who come to school, ready to learn. We always need basic supplies to complete classwork, homework and art projects. Many of our pens are old and dried up. We need new pens to make posters and correct work.

I want my students to work in small groups and design posters with examples of learning objectives from our math, phonics and reading series.

Students would be able to look at these posters which would show the steps to add three numbers together as one example. referring to these dynamic posters that students created provides a concrete reference for them to look at while learning a new concept. I am also requesting pads of paper for prewriting and spelling practice. Encouraging students to actively participate in class discussions is easier with novelty stickers that kids love to collect. I also give out stickers for each level of Accelerated Math that a student passes. They store them in their sticker books and proudly show their parents at Back To School Night. We also need paper portfolios to store work that is finished and work that needs to be completed. Won't you help my fabulous first graders get the basic supplies to kick off a brand new school year?
