Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in one of the lowest income/highest poverty schools in our district our students face many obstacles. My goal is for my students to walk away understanding that education is the key to success in life and for college readiness. By preparing our learners academically and giving them access to experiences they would not have access to otherwise. We are molding positive contributors to our school community and the community outside of our district.
This year I am teaching a very bright, enthusiastic group of advance learners.
I am fortunate to understand that all students have the capacity to be GREAT thinkers and I want to work with them to help them discover their own love for learning. When our students love to learn teaching becomes much more organic within the classroom.
My students love to work together and bring such life and joy into the classroom each and every day. They come eager to learn, work on group projects, learn new things and come with the skills needed to be successful. I need rich, engaging and supportive resources to push my students to their fullest potential.
My Project
I am requesting basic classroom supplies, such as pencils, erasers, pens, highlighters and post-its. Pencils are an essential took utilized everyday in the classroom to take notes, complete assignments and homework. Students will use post-its and highlighters as literacy is a large emphasis in our school this year. Students will use highlighters and post-its during close reading and to annotate classroom texts. I have also requested some flair pens that will be used during writer's workshop when students are editing and revising their own work or peer editing. It will be a visual tool for students to see the changes they make in their own work. Erasers show students that mistakes are part of the learning process and that is the mindset I instill in my classroom. With these basic classroom supplies my students will start the year with the essential tools for learning in an organized classroom!
