My Students

Do you remember the first grade? It's a great time to learn through play and experiences! My school recently became a STEM school. Students in our school come from all types of backgrounds, mainly Hispanic and African American. STEM education is the great equalizer for them. It gives them the opportunity to be challeneged, and problem solve. However, we are also in need of basic supplies. Notebooks, highlighters, books, dry erase markers for student use, math tools, and stem tools!

My students have a love and passion for learning, they come to school every day charged up and ready to tackle new challenges.

I am amazed by the way they think outside the box to solve problems and by their energy!

The majority of the students at my school are English Language Learners with Spanish being the primary language spoken at home. Over 85% of students also qualify for free lunch. We are a Title I school as well. None of these things hold us back, they just make us shine even brighter!

My Project

This project will fund basic supplies for my first-grade students. Each student will receive their own dry erase markers and erasers. We use these daily in phonics, writing, math, and small group instruction. They increase engagement and cut down on the number of copies I need to make as a teacher. I have to buy my own copy paper, so this is a cost-saving that will help our classroom for the entire year!

These supplies may be “basic” but they will have a huge impact on the reading, writing, and math skills of my students.

The notebooks are designed specifically for K-1 students to help with handwriting, and to increase writing engagement by allowing them to show their thinking with a picture. These notebooks are also a great way to differentiate for my English language learner students as they can draw a picture to show their thinking then add words as they learn more and more each day!
