Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in need of basic school supplies as they work from home. I'm finding that many have run out of notebook paper, composition notebooks, pencils, pens, markers and crayons. I'd like to create bundles of school supplies to drop off to them. We do a lot of assignments on-line, but have not completely done away with hard copies. Also, being able to take notes as they work on reading assignments allows them to organize their thoughts before answering questions. And who doesn't need scratch paper for math work?

My students are hardworking and diligent.

We are a Title I school, but we make no excuses for ourselves. We're doing all that we can to ensure that we don't fall behind academically. The majority of the students come from economically disadvantaged homes; 97% are minorities, 87.5% ESOL, and 87.5% of our students receive free or reduced lunches. Our students work hard and are doing their best to keep up with all assignments. I don't want them to be distracted because they don't have the basic school supplies that would be at their fingertips were we in school.

My Project

These school supplies will reduce the stress that my kids are beginning to feel. As the semester winds down and we move into another possible semester of virtual lessons, my students are getting anxious. They are worrying because they've already used up all of their school supplies and don't think they'll be getting more. The kits I'm putting together will let them know that everything is going to work out and they're not alone. They will have the things they need to continue their work and a little more to brighten their days. I'll give them the dry erase markers with sandwich bag mini-dry erase boards. I hope this colorful addition will cheer them up and make them smile. Thank you in advance to all of my donors. You're angels!
