Our urban middle school has over 800 students. Health is one the most important subjects at the middle school level. Students learn social skills, like how to peacefully resolve conflict, interpersonal skills enhance health and reduce health risks, healthy eating practices, and much more.
My school was built over a century ago and there are not many modern conveniences here.
We go without air conditioning and the heating system works well in some places and not much in others. It is the students and the staff that make our school great! It is an urban middle school, full of life, including diverse students. A unified staff all works together to make our school a safe and fun learning environment for everyone.
My Project
The materials and supplies requested for this project are the basic needs for any well run room. It includes paper, pencils, pens, tape, and hand sanitizers. Our students come from very low-income poverty level households and they do not come to school with supplies. Day after day I supply many children with something to write with or paper to write on. I make copies of handouts for classes as well.
Unfortunately, teachers in my district have to buy these supplies out of our own pocket!
Additionally, we do not have textbooks and often need to print articles or other work out for use in the classroom.
