This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach incredible students with moderate to severe disabilities at a Title I school, where resources can be limited, but our students’ needs are great. Beyond teaching, I’m also the go-to person for personal hygiene support, often helping students in the restroom and ensuring they have the basic essentials to feel clean, comfortable, and confident.
While our school does its best to support our students, there isn’t always funding for essential hygiene items like underwear, wipes, adult diapers, and gloves.
Because of this, I often seek out these supplies on my own—through yard sales, donations, and asking around. Having these items readily available would make a huge impact on my students’ daily well-being, helping them stay comfortable, focused, and ready to learn.
In addition to hygiene items, I’m also requesting puzzles and board games to create engaging, hands-on learning opportunities. Many of my students thrive with interactive activities that build social skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidence. These games provide a fun, structured way to learn, bond, and develop important life skills while making the classroom feel like a safe and welcoming space.
