This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I remember going to school and never having to worry about school supplies. At that time my parents were able to provide for basic supply needs and what they couldn't provide for, school took over and made sure that I had everything I needed. Now this is no longer a sure thing!
My student's parents are constantly willing to provide for our classroom such as for paper and pencils.
However, I know that these are difficult times for all of them, making it very difficult to continue donating basic supply needs. Our school has a very small budget, last year my students had to do without individual boxes of crayons, parents donated boxes of xerox paper for copies and much needed pencils. I want my students to know that these are small barriers to get through, that although they are from low income families and families with big hearts but low education, they are well taken cared of and are able to succeed. These students are from large families living together and often come to school without any coats or breakfast to start out their days. The last thing they need is to be concern with whether they will have the minimal supplies to have successful learning opportunities with plenty of incentives.
My Project
My students need basic supply needs, such Desk Nameplates, incentive charts, stamp pads and note pads, that our school budget is not able to provide. We need basic supplies to make a rich learning environment, one that is welcoming and nurturing and provides all needed essentials. We need to enter the classroom with supplies that match our willing and eager spirit to learn. When my students enter my classroom I would like them to know that they will be able to be taken cared of in all aspects needed and that they are not responsible for anything else other than their own choices to learn. These resources will change my student's school life experience and equipped them to compete in a world they would otherwise not be able to. I want my students to know that our classroom is a safe place, and a home away from home. That those who come from poverty and lacking in resources do not have to face the same experiences in school and in our classroom. Students will be able to increase in understanding that our classroom not only identifies them and recognizes them as fully able to succeed, but that we are a family lacking in nothing.
When I was growing up, much like my students, I had to deal with many financial and emotional and support.
Although I was born in an impoverished nation, and faced many difficulties, my school in a low income community seemed very prestigious to me and always provided everything I needed to succeed. In United States of America, there should be no reason for our students to have anything less than those underdeveloped countries, they need basic school supplies, and we desperately need your help.
