My Students

Our students come from diverse backgrounds with about half speaking a language other than English and over 90% on the free and reduced lunch program. They are learning how to be positive role models for our school, and hopefully, the community as well. Our school is also a visible learning school that practices learning from our mistakes and growing from them. We model growth mindsets and accept any challenge that comes our way. Too often, we find students who want to give up. School is considered a safe place for them, where they can eat, learn, and grow!

My Project

Our students will begin algebra very soon. The calculators will help support students who are still struggling with basic facts and arithmetic, which will ultimately help them to learn the concepts in algebra.

Due to budget cuts, the graph and lined paper is a need in both the classroom and at home.

We will need the graph paper to better understand the four quadrants and graphing coordinate points. The lined paper will allow students to write rough drafts of their writing, as well as to complete homework assignments.

The easel pads are used for teaching to provide better visuals of lessons, but mostly for collaborative group work. Each group gets a piece of paper from the easel to respond to a prompt or share a strategy for solving a math problem. They present their poster to the rest of the class, which is later hung up on our classroom walls. We believe learning should be VISIBLE!
