Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school serves students in grades 6-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. As a result, we are consistently one of the top-performing schools in the state and district every year. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college, and in life. We are the smallest school in our district and our average family income is one of the lowest in the state. Our students always strive to do their best and to achieve their dreams.
My Project
I teach special needs children that benefit from using all methods of learning styles to achieve understanding and mastery of mathematical concepts. We are in need of binders, pencils and mathematics manipulatives. Manipulatives help students touch and feel shapes and visualize the nets, and volume capacities. My student function and succeed using mechanical pencils. Binders are to store curriculum, goal setting papers, progress towards those goals, and achievement certificates to present to parents.
We are a very small school district in Texas; not much state or federal funding flows our way.
Our families are also low income families and cannot afford to purchase and replace supplies as the years moves on.
