This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are very active and hard-working from the moment they connect virtually until it is time to say goodbye. Their enthusiasm for learning is apparent as they quickly start their morning work every day. These students come from various backgrounds, mostly low-income. Teaching children from across the globe who speak little to no English is a challenge, but the one thing we all have in common is that we're excited about learning.

I have 30 beautiful children in 2nd Grade who come from different parts of the United States, Central, and South America.

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students struggle with learning basic math and language arts skills.

This year, each one of them will have their own individual math manipulatives that will help students learn to work on different math skills. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their materials are going to work or not. I want to increase the interest in math in my learners and increase math achievement and problem-solving strategies. Any interaction with hands-on tools will increase their critical thinking as well as their desire to learn and use math in the years ahead!
