Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The almost 900 students at our school live in a low income neighborhood with limited access to basic school supplies. We are a Title I school with almost all of the students qualifying for free breakfast and free lunch each day. On average, 2-3 students in my classroom are considered homeless and struggle to find suitable housing. They qualify for assistance through The McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act.

Although my students have limited access to resources, they are enthusiastic to come to school each day, to learn many new standards.

I look forward to giving my students many of the much needed supplies this year by asking generous donors to provide these supplies.

My Project

These supplies that I am requesting, are basic classroom supplies for our fifth grade classroom that are not provided by the school I teach at. I prefer to have some glue sticks rather than the liquid glue the school provides, so I am requesting enough glue sticks to get us through the end of the school year. We use Sharpie markers, but the school does not provide a class set, so I would like to have one for each student. Also, I need tape refills and some of the blank hardback books for our simile project we do each year. These books are not something our school will pay for, so I would like to be able to have these basic supplies provided by the generous donors of Donors Choose. Also, I have watercolor paints, but I still need the watercolor paper to paint the sunset painting I want to teach them how to paint.

All of these basic school supplies may not be very exciting to fund, but all of these will be used this year and appreciated by the fifth grade students in my classroom.
