Basic Classroom Supplies For 24 South Bronx Second Graders

My project needs a wide variation of everyday classroom supplies such as construction paper, glue sticks, drawing paper, #2 pencils, glitter, a classroom electric pencil sharpener and some fun games like Candyland and Chutes N' Laddders to put a smile on my kids' faces!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a teacher of a class of 24 bright, wonderful and talented second grade students. After 8 years of teaching at a very impoverished school in the South Bronx, I decided to transfer to a new school a few minutes down the road. I needed a change and I love the children in the area that I work. There is something very special about the children that come from this area. Nothing makes me happier than to see them happy, prospering and learning. I brought over some materials from my old school, but I wanted to leave as much as I could for the new teacher and class that will be in my old classroom. As I began looking through what is in my new classroom, I realized that I am missing a countless amount of basic supplies that my students need on an every day basis in order to learn and succeed in school. I have been purchasing as much as I can for my class with my own money, but that only goes so far. I would love to be able to give my class what they need and deserve. I have asked for basic supplies like writing paper, drawing paper, construction paper, glue sticks and pencils. I believe that learning should be be fun and enjoyable, so I also asked for some hands-on phonics activities and fun games like Candyland and Chutes N' Ladders. Thank you!
