This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach at a high school with four SLC (small learning communities): Performing Arts, New Media, School for Advanced Studies, and Teaching Career Academy. Each SLC has its own personality of students that makes them unique. Overall, I love my students' positive attitude and how astute they are. They are the reason I want to come into work.

I wish to create a warm and comfortable environment for my students to learn.

Many of my students are sitting in their hard and uncomfortable seats for long periods of the day. This causes students to have growing back and neck problems. To make sure they stay as comfortable as possible, I want to provide the use of seat cushions for students to choose to use.

In addition, I would like to provide the basic hygiene materials for students to have access to use. Due to a shortage of school nurses, our nurse is not always on campus for students to have access to these basic necessities. As a result, I would like to have a supply of first aid essentials for students and staff to use as needed. Our students are always sent to the nurse's office for an ice pack or a heating pad for their monthly pains and aches. And often times, my students just require a band-aid here and there for a cut they acquired throughout the day.

This is especially true for my students who are without homes. Having the basic necessities like a toothbrush, extra pair of socks, a clean shirt, and a comb goes a long way for my students.
