My Students

My second graders are voracious readers! They love to read both fiction and nonfiction books. Their favorite characters include Pete the Cat, Fly Guy, Piggie and Elephant, and Mercy Watson. They also love to read about insects, space, and plants. My students are hungry bookworms! They are eager to learn and read about the world around them. My class is made up of general education students, children with special needs, and English as a new language students.

My students love to be at school and are like little sponges, absorbing everything around them.

Their parents work long hours and usually do not see their children. The children are usually cared for by their grandparents or a family friend. Most of them do not have someone who speaks English at home. Thus, it is difficult for students to acquire the English language.

Due to financial hardships, my students do not have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities during the school year or summer.

My Project

My second graders love arts and crafts! We need some basic art supplies to continue expressing ourselves creatively. Students will use the watercolor paints to paint their favorite scenes from reading. The wiggly eyes, tissue paper, craft sticks, and yarn will be used for various art projects and STEAM activities. For example, students will read fairy tales, such as Three Little Pigs, and use the art supplies to build a sturdy house.

In my classroom, art is a time for my second graders to relax, create, and express themselves.

My students look forward to art every week. We hope to continue to be creative with the art supplies requested.

Due to budget cuts, it has been challenging to get the supplies needed throughout the school year for my students. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
