My Students

Place value is a crucial component of Math Curriculum. Nothing can take the place of actually having Base Ten Blocks in each child's hands during the learning process. Currently we have 4 sets of Base Ten Blocks that we are sharing between 25 students.

My students have set a goal for this school year to show at least a year and a half of growth.

They are motivated, but lacking some resources to help them reach this goal. I teach 2nd grade at an urban charter school in Oklahoma. We are an arts-infused, college prep school. We have 25 students in each classroom. Keeping our students engaged in the learning process is one of our top priorities, and having hands-on manipulatives is an excellent tool to do just that!

My Project

Like I said, at our school we work hard every day to engage our students. We want them to be invested in their learning. Manipulatives are so engaging. The ability to express numbers multiple ways is a critical skill in elementary school. I know that with a class set of Base Ten Blocks these scholars will master Place Value!

Students learn more when they explore.

Sharing 4 sets of blocks with 25 students takes time. Time and learning is lost as we wait for each child to have the opportunity to learn with the blocks.
